Acid Plants

The Centre of Excellence for Sulphuric Acid Plants within SNC-Lavalin, known as SNC-Lavalin Fenco, has extensive experience in the engineering, design, procurement, construction and commissioning of sulphuric acid and related process plants, the majority of which are executed on a fixed price basis.

Successful projects in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Norway, China, Russia, Turkey, U.S.A., and Venezuela attest to the international experience and expertise within the group, and have firmly established our credentials as a stable and reliable contractor with total in-house capability.

As a multi-disciplined organization, SNC-Lavalin Fenco can undertake every stage of sulphuric acid infrastructure project development. Our capabilities range from scoping studies to feasibility analysis and front end design to construction, commissioning and operator training.

Our sulphuric acid technology is provided through a license from MECS Inc. (formerly Monsanto Enviro-Chem Systems). MECS is the recognized world leader in the sulphuric acid field and their technology has been utilized in the design of more than 800 plants in 56 countries.

While MECS designs and builds acid plants within the United States, it has been their policy to license qualified engineering companies to market and utilize their technology in other countries. SNC-Lavalin Fenco has had the longest relationship with MECS of any international licensee and are the sole licensee of this technology in Australia. In this respect, it is interesting to note that SNC-Lavalin Fenco and its previous associates have designed and built over 60% of the “ex USA” projects on a worldwide basis.

International experience is somewhat different from “domestic” experience and in this respect, SNC-Lavalin Fenco offers a vast array of input from our associates to ensure not only the best technology is provided, but also the best execution method for the acid plant and auxiliaries.
