Burrup Fertilizers - Western Australia

The Burrup Ammonia Project consisted of a 2,200 tpd ammonia plant with primary and secondary reformers, a captive 20 MW power plant, package boilers with a total capacity of 200 tph supplying medium pressure steam for start up, and two vent stacks for gases (excluding ammonia) are vented during start up and upset conditions. Ammonia was stored in two 40,000 t atmospheric pressure cryogenic ammonia storage tanks complete with flare stack. A closed circuit seawater – freshwater cooling system was provided for the plant.

Ammonia loading and recirculation facilities were provided at the Dampier public wharf. Ancillary facilities consisted of catalyst loading and unloading facilities, demineralization water plant, effluent treatment plant, sulphuric acid and caustic unloading, storage and distribution facilities, inert gas generation unit for gaseous nitrogen, on-site storage of liquid nitrogen, two 2.0 MW emergency diesel generators, and other associated support facilities.
